It doesn't matter if you're in Kentucky, Kansas or stuck inside in Key West, bring the beach into your house with a few blankets and a bit of imagination.
Spread a blanket (blue is best) out for the water and another (tan or brown this time) for the beach. Let your child put on his/her swim gear and use all the normal toys as beach toys. Think: blocks to build a sand castle, look for shells in the pile of stuffed animals, use something cylindrical as binoculars to spy ocean creatures from afar and let an old toy car be a flying kite. And, don't forget to lie on the beach and look at the clouds. If you can and want to, take a picnic lunch or snack to end the beautiful day at the beach.
Keeping up with kids is not easy to do.
Play by play offers an idea a day to help you keep them on their toes too.
